An Energy Problem Technological Development
Question: Write about the "An Energy Problemfor Technological Development". Answer: Introduction The rise of industrial era and technological development around the world has been doomed by the energy crisis. Various countries around the world have been challenged by the increase in the energy crunch. The lack of use of renewable energy and the increase in the pollution has reduced the glory of industrial revolution. This assignment focuses on the energy problem around the world, narrowing down its focus mainly on Kuwait, and the problems being faced. This essay also attempts to propose few solutions to reduce the energy crisis that is being faced. According to Al Mallakh and el Mallakh (2015), among the various countries facing the energy crunch, Kuwait has been affected more than the other countries. As mentioned by AlQattan et al. (2015), statistics show that Kuwait consumes about 500,000 bpd of oil. Out of this huge quantity, 350,000 bpd are used for the generation of electricity and in the purification of sea water. The total oil consumption in Kuwait has doubled since 2001 . This increase in the demand has come from the power plants and the seawater desalination plants. Survey also shows that the rise in demand is expected to be 700,000 and 900,000 bdp by 2030, by the power stations and desalination plants In order to curb this problem and meet the rising demand, an alternative source of energy is required. The industrial revolution around the world has resulted in the rise in the demand of energy, with the supply remaining the same. As a solution to this problem, solar energy could be used as an alternative source of energy. According to Bou-Rabee et al. (2015), solar energy is a renewable source of energy and is available for free from the sunlight. An initial investment on the installation of solar panels is needed for the use of solar energy. As mentioned by (Alsaffar and El-Sayed 2014), solar panels capture the solar energy and this energy could be use as an alternate source of energy such that the deficiency of energy in Kuwait could be mitigated or curbed down to a large amount. The energy problem that Kuwait has been facing could be supported with the wide use of solar energy. This solution, if applied effectively could become a permanent solution to the energy crisis. Another reason for the sudden rise in the demand of energy in Kuwait is due to the closure of many oil refineries. Major three oil refineries were shut down due to power outrage. Thus, along with the rise in demand of energy, the closure of the oil refineries added on to the deficit. As a proposed solution to this problem, nuclear power could be used as an alternative renewable source of energy. Nuclear power is an environment friendly source of energy which is much cost effective as well as safer for the environment. Nuclear technology is an advanced technology and its use is also recommended. Other potential alternative sources of energy include the use of wind energy and tidal energy. Nuclear energy could be used effectively such that the energy crunch in Kuwait could be curbed down. The use of nuclear energy is advantageous since it is a renewable source of energy and not in wide use as compared to the use of natural oil and gas. The use of nuclear energy is a permanent solution to reduce the energy crunch since a lot of advancements have been taking place in the field of nuclear energy. Moreover, Kuwait being one of the major exporters of natural gas and oil in the world has to maintain a steady rate of export to its clients. In order to maintain a steady flow in the export of natural gas, the deficit created is taken from the country itself. Hence, the reduction in the production of natural gas and oil results in a huge deficit in the country. The recommended solutions include the use of alternate sources of energy such as solar energy and nuclear energy. The first solution proposed is the use of solar energy as an alternate source of energy. This solution is cost effective and a feasible one. The use of solar energy could be effective in mitigating the energy issues faced by Kuwait. The use of solar energy requires an initial installation cost of the solar panels. However, after the panel installations are done, the process is cost effective. Moreover, since the climate of Kuwait is predominantly warm, hence the use of solar energy is effective in Kuwait. Another proposed solution is the use of nuclear energy as an alternative source of energy. The use of nuclear energy in Kuwait is also feasible and effective, since it is a renewable source of energy and a new technology. Moreover, intensive research work is going on in the field of nuclear energy and hence is easily developed. Hence, the use of nuclear energy is cost ef fective and an effective solution. Both these solutions are sustainable and feasible enough to achieve a permanent solution to reduce energy crunch in Kuwait as well as in the world. The proposed solution, if executed effectively would become a permanent and the best suited solution for reduction of the energy crisis. The demand for energy has been increasing day by day around the world. With the increase in the demand for energy, the supply has become deficit and is unable to cope up with the demand. Moreover, the closure of a lot of oil refineries has also resulted in the lack of supply. Hence, in order to mitigate the problem of energy, alternate sources such as use of solar energy, nuclear energy and wind energy could be used to curb the energy crunch. The use of solar energy is feasible and effective in case of Kuwait. This is because, Kuwait is predominantly a country with warm climate and hence, the use of solar energy is beneficial. Along with the use of solar energy, nuclear energy could also be used as an alternative source of energy.
